Food / Dining Options

MIT offers a wide range of choices of where and what to eat. On campus, you can sit down to a tasty meal in the Stata Center or at Lobdell food court, Subway, Anna's Taquería, or Dunkin Donuts in the Student Center. Four dorms also have dining facilities, all open to the entire MIT community: McCormick Hall, Baker House, Next House and Simmons Hall offer meat and vegetarian entrées, cooked-to-order grill and stir-fry options, full delicatessen and self-serve options.

In addition, the campus is dotted with take-out cafés that serve up coffee, lattes, soups, sandwiches, salads and wraps. Options include Bosworth's, Pacific St. Café, Café 4, Steam Café, the Bio Café in Building 68 and Refresher Course. Or, after a rousing workout in the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center, enjoy a snack from Au Bon Pain. Other on-campus treats include "food trucks" serving a variety of inexpensive food on-the-go, and Simmons Late Night Café, purveyor of bubble tea, decadent pastries and savory steamed buns.

Kosher dinners and breakfasts are served from Hillel's two kosher kitchens in the Religious Activities Center, Room W11, six days a week. Lunch is served on Saturdays. Many MIT food outlets carry kosher sandwiches, and some dorms feature kosher cooking facilities.

Halal/Zabeeha dinners for Muslim students are available five nights a week. Several markets with halal meats are located near MIT, as are a number of very delicious halal restaurants.

Some students prefer to cook their own meals, daily or on special occasions. Every dorm suite sports a full-size kitchen and barbecue pits line the courtyards of every residence hall. You can stock up on groceries from LaVerde's Market, the nearby Shaw's supermarket or the convenience stores in MacGregor Hall and Walker Memorial.

A short walk down Main Street or Massachusetts Avenue toward Central Square reveals a smorgasbord of ethnic food options (as well as traditional American fare) -- including choices from India, Pakistan, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East, Ethiopia, Greece, Thailand, China and Korea.
